![]() Triclosan We don’t need this stuff. Triclosan is classified as a pesticide and it’s finding it’s way into more and more products daily. By products, I mean tooth paste, deodorants, cleaning supplies, liquid soaps and the list goes on and on. Is there no decency in the way companies do business anymore? The dollar had been the bottom line for many decades but like everything else in this society there are no longer any values and morals. It is no wonder that dogs and frogs are growing extra eyes – industry is messing with mother nature and as the saying goes, “mother nature don’t like being messed with.” Does this bother you as much it does me? How about an email to the FDA, since they regulate it’s use rather than the EPA. I don’t understand how this creepy shit can go on our highly developed and not to mention, civilized country. As my D.I. told me in boot camp, “take this dime and call everyone who gives a shit.” With email it is a lot easier that. Pass this message along to any ‘tree huggers’ that you might know and even moms should care ’bout this one. I’ll try to find a happier subject next time. I promise. Mike ![]() May 3, 2010

![]() James Luther 'Jim' Dickinson & Alex Chilton James Luther ‘Jim’ Dickinson and Alex Chilton , two of my favorite music people have recently passed away. They are right at the top of my fave list, both are from Memphis and are musically linked in more ways than one.
Among James many accomplishments was playing piano on the Rolling Stones’ hit “Wild Horses”, producing numerous artists albums and releasing several solo and group albums himself. As lead singer for the Box Tops, Alex enjoyed at the age of 16 a number-one international hit, “The Letter.” He also released a boat load of albums with The Box Tops, Big Star and as a solo artist. Alex is a bit twisted which is something I look for in an artist. If you haven’t already noticed this by the music played at the Eden House. James produced much of Alex’s music over the years and both were a major influence in the Memphis blues arena – the blue eyed blues, that is. James was 68 and Alex was 59 at the time of their demise. Doug Sahm and now this – I’m just not sure. Check ‘em out and if you are just a bit off center you will love these guys. For example, a couple of my favorites of James’ are ‘Free Beer Tomorrow’ and ‘Jungle Jim and the Voodoo Tiger’. I especially like ‘Set’ and ‘Alex Chilton 1970′, solo Chilton. Give yourself a treat and as Lou Reed would say, “take a walk on the wildside.” When times were simpler and the 8 transistor radio ate up the battery in a couple hours. “Give me a ticket for an airoplane, ain’t got time to take a fast train. Lonely days are gone, I’m a going home, my baby she wrote me a letter.”

Brady continues to grow and I continue to age. What gives? I am getting to there….’Brady Update’. The Bradster is 17 weeks old and weighs in at a crisp 14.4 pounds. He can hold himself up on the side of the bed – wow! He is such a joy to behold and he is growing less alarmed by my voice. I think Elizabeth and Chris have recorded my voice, distorted it and are using it as some sort of training technique for Brady or Ben the dog. That is what it must be. Brady is starting to eat the good stuff so hold on to your hat. Check back for updates, Mike ![]() April 16, 2010
Rumor has it that Neal Boortz has been stalking the Eden House spa cam. I have heard from a reliable source that Neal has been checking out the spa cam while on the air. My source also tells me that Neal is a Libertarian and from where I set, that ain’t all bad. Though, I’m not sure I want to see northern California succeed from the Union. But the upper peninsula of Michigan (my home state) would be another matter. I hope if any of my guests has been exposing themselves they are younger and better looking than me. We do need to show our best side here at the Eden House. Check out Neal weekdays from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on AM750 WSB See ya later, Mike ![]() April 13, 2010
A water filtration pitcher and a couple stainless steel water bottles (customize them to your liking) are where it’s at. Consumer’s Report (May 2010 issue) has rated the Clear2O water filtration pitcher as the best buy, which means it’s the best for the money and does the best job. Both the regular and the premium pitchers are rated excellent for lead and chloroform removal, excellent for flow rate and very good for not clogging – all categories are in the red. Both pitchers are well below what Consumer’s Report has them listed at and the years replacements filters are about $60. Is this a no brainer or what? Aqua Man – remember that comic? See ya, Mike ![]() April 10, 2010
Refer a friend and you both are in the money. Eden House funny money that is – $25 for each of you. Oh my god, Jenna is starting to have brain farts too. Yes, this is her idea. It has to be the water. Tell your friend or family member when booking their reservation to tell us who referred them and both of you are in the money (must tell at the time of the reservation). Use the $$$ at our gift shop or apply it to your room. If you like, you can even use it to light your old corn cob pipe. Sorry, it won’t buy you any lottery tickets though. Elizabeth and I have a couple other goodies in the works and will keep you in the loop as they develop.
On the freeway which is already in progress

Lots of folks have been asking about ‘the’ Ira. He is not in jail, he has not passed away and all other rumors have been greatly exaggerated. Though he did marry a Methodist – what is the world coming to? Betsey, Ira’s lovely blushing bride, says that she is a non-practicing Methodist. I think she is a ‘recovering’ Methodist. Okay, enough about the Methodist. As you can see from the picture, Ira is doing quite well (dropped a few lbs.) and is living in Maryland. He recently had surgery and all went well. Though it did put a crimp in their plans for a trip out west this summer. For kicks they have been doing every National Park and Civil War battle field they can find. Ira has that crazy National Parks passport and is always bragging about how many stamps he has in it. He was the same way with his Olympic buttons several years back. He’s just a great big kid. I guess that is why we all love him so much. If you would like to contact him – drop a line through this post or call him at 555-555-1212 – just kidding about the call. See ya, Mike ![]() April 8, 2010
There have been lots of inquiries ’bout the hammocks and swings lately – probably a spring thing. The fine folks at the Hammock Company are offering our guests a 20% discount on all their great stuff. Check them out and when you find what you need/want type in this secret code EDEN20 for your discount. Just like the old days when the prize in a box of Cracker Jacks was real. Oh yea, don’t get the rope hammocks. They aren’t nearly as comfortable as the quilted hammocks. A little inside information – I recommend taking a newspaper or magazine to the hammock with you. This way you can cover your face and folks won’t catch you asleep with your mouth open. Just a suggestion. I have been busted by Gena from southwest Michigan for not blogging more…. so hold on to your hat. I am coming out of my ‘blog closet’ and I am going to be a blogging fool. Gena you will live to regret this. Be seeing ya, Mike ![]() March 17, 2010
Michael Doucet (of Beausoleil fame) and friend Michael Pillot dropped by this week for a visit and a nice surprise it was. The Mr. D. & Mr. P. were on the Prairie Home Companion cruise bopping around the Caribbean and had a small layover in Key West. I hadn’t seen Michael D. since the band stayed with us many years ago. He broke his leg and is on crutches – though you should have seen him on a bicycle. This photo is of him in what is called a ’sand wheelchair’ and was taken in Marathon, Florida last month during a benefit concert. The three of us named Mike went to El Siboney and had white bean soup and Cuban Mixes. It doesn’t get any better than that.
Beausoleil’s latest CD, ‘Alligator Purse’ on Yep Roc Records, was overseen by Michael P. (whose day job is television producer). Playing with the boys on this CD are Natalie Merchant, Garth Hudson, Rosewell Rudd, Bill Keith and others. I love covers and there are several on this disc. This link to Yep Roc has tour info as well as CD cuts….take a listen. Oh yea, you can buy the music there too – $15.99 CD or $9.99 download (instant gratification). Yep Roc is a great record label and has lots of my kind of music. Music guaranteed not to bore. The complete Beausoleil library of more CDs than I have toes and fingers can be found on Amazon.com – again buy the disc or download the MP3. See ya on flip side, Mike
