The Rolling Stones just released some of the songs that ended up on the cutting room floor when they originally released the album in May, 1972. The original album was 18 songs and is to this day is one of my all time favorites chunks of music. Needless to say, the 70’s were a very special time for me – we thought it would never end. I still think it was the all time best decade for music. Perhaps the decade should be from 1965 to 1975. Yes, this would be my pick. Strange that it coincides with the Vietnam conflict. Sorry, for the transgression.
When the Stones recorded ‘Exile’ in the south of France they has left England over unpaid taxes and they were not in another time zone but on another planet. Maybe this is why it is such a great album. These new ten songs are on a CD with the original 18 songs. I would wait until the disc goes on sale. A fan of the Stones will want these songs and they do compliment the originals songs but they were left out for two reasons. The first album was already two discs to begin with and these songs aren’t as good – plain and simple.
‘Jamming With Edward!’ is another great disc by the Stones accompanied by Ry Cooder and Nicky Hopkins. It was recorded in 1969 during the ‘Let It Bleed’ session and released in 1972. As the title implies, they are jamming. This can be a tough to find one to find. If you have trouble finding it, let me know. Six songs and about 35 minutes long.
See ya on the flip side, Mike

From one Stones fan to another, I must agree with you but for one thing. I think there are a few songs on the new disc that hold their own. Track 2, “Plundered my Soul” and track 6, “So Divine” are pretty good. The intro to “So Divine” sounds as though you are about to hear “Paint it Black”. I’m also a fan of JWE. Thats a classic and finds its way into my CD player often. Here’s hoping we both get to see them tour this year or very soon. I’ve seen them numerous times and still get excited like a school girl every time I do. It’s Only Rock and Roll Mike, but we Like It!

Rock on Jim,
Only saw the Stones once and that was 1975 in Detroit just before I left the real world and moved to Key West. It was the tour where Mick was riding around the stage on a monster balloon. I got to see some of the big boys but only once. Saw Dylan in Chicago on his, ‘going electric’ tour in 1965 and saw the Beatles at old Comiskey Park, also Chicago, in ‘64 or ‘65 (their first U.S. tour). To quote Iggy Pop, “I don’t do drugs any more but I still think high.” One of my favorite quotes.
and the music played into the night

Great quote, one I relate to myself. Thanks Mike. I’m sure I’ll use it myself.
