Tar Ball Policy
Will we be called ‘Tar Heel’s now? Just kidding North Carolina. Yes, we’ve had a few tar balls wash up on shore. And we’ve had a couple calls about our Tar Ball Policy and you can imagine where I pulled this one from. After much deliberation here is our policy. If you don’t want to come down due to the tar balls – just give us a call and we’ll put your refund in the mail or issue you a credit. That was simple, wasn’t it?
Key West has never been noted for it’s beaches and the last I went to the beach was about 20 years ago. That said, life on the water is proceeding as usual – sunset sails are still going out, kayak trips happening and fishing has been very good of late. If you planned a trip, if were me, I’d still come and have a great time. No oil on the bar room floors, that is spilt beer. If you feel a little guilty for enjoying yourself – a donation to one of the many wild life refuge groups would be nice.
See ya at Happy Hour – Mike

“No oil on the bar room floors, that is spilt beer.”
That’s the funniest (and saddest) thing I’ve read today. Maybe this Fantasy Fest we’ll be having cleaning-up-the-beaches parties?

Dawn, I know better than that. Who are you trying to BS? I have seen you in action and cleaning up the beaches is not your M.O. We’re going for 4 kegs and 5,000 jelly shots for this year’s Friday parade. You helping pump the beer this year?
See ya by the pool in October, Mike

If I were me, and I still am, I’s coming anyway too. And that’s why I just made a reservation for July! Am worried about the ocean, folks’ livelihoods, and the wildlife, etc. Not worried about whether or not we will still be able to enjoy ourselves!!
A bientot! Marcel and Phyllis Pautrat

Mike, you’re a gentleman and a scholar about the refund policy. We had plenty of fun walking around old town – didn’t need any stinkin’ beaches to have fun down there. Good on you for making some people happy though.

Phyllis and Keith,
You guys make more sense the more I drink. The gov’nor has now declared us and a few other counties in Florida, a disaster area. Where was he in the 70’s? That is another story and on a personal level.
I am putting a new bright red banner on the home page to address this cluster _ _ _ _. It will spell out our policy on the ‘tar ball’ tragedy. I will update the banner as our situation evolves. We here in Key West are optimistic that we will get ‘tar balls’ and not the ‘black death’ or the slim that is hitting some of the poor folks in the north gulf. This is a case where more regulations are needed. It has been proven time and again, people won’t do the right thing and take the proper precautions if it costs them a few extra dollars unless their tail is put into a vice. (anyone remember the Pinto?) I’m starting to rave again, aren’t I? Look for the shinny new banner on our home page.
Keep on truckin’ Mike

Found the banner and thanks for the “Tar Ball Policy” and update.
Either way Kristin and I have no plans to cancel our reservations in July. Still very excited. I’m not one to over worry about that kinda stuff. We will have a great time. And can’t wait to get there to start our relaxing first week of marriage.
We hope for the best, for everyone/thing living on land or in the water.
Thanks!
AJ

Mike, you guys are awesome to offer the refund policy due to the oil spill, but we won’t be changing plans. Come hell or high oil, we’re keeping our plans to hang out with the crew at Eden again – (been staying there 11 years now). I know the pool will be as clean and fun as ever. Can’t wait! We’ve got a good group together with representation from CA, PA and NY this year. See you in a couple of weeks.

We’ll be there for sure. It’s the Eden House we come to relax at, not the beaches.
